Suwannee River AHEC (SRAHEC) is a 501-(c)-3 non-profit organization and has a governing Board of Directors. SRAHEC has developed a fully operational AHEC encompassing 12 counties surrounding Gainesville, the principal metropolitan area in the region. Included are Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Suwannee, and Union Counties. SRAHEC conducts a wide range of programs designed to address the health professions shortages and needs of the medically underserved populations. SRAHEC has established linkages with the various Colleges of the UF Health Science Center as well as with nursing and allied health programs at Lake City Community College and at Santa Fe College to address dental health, mental health, and injury and violence prevention issues in the region.

Big Bend AHEC (BBAHEC), also a 501-(c)-3 non-profit organization, provides AHEC services within a fourteen-county service area surrounding Tallahassee, the state’s Capital. The region includes the counties of Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, Wakulla, and Washington, which are primarily rural.

Northeast Florida AHEC (NEFAHEC), 501-(c)-3 non-profit organization, serves the principally urban area of metropolitan Jacksonville and Duval County, as well six smaller counties including Baker, Clay, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia. Northeast Florida AHEC focuses on health disparities within its service areas by working with health professions students to introduce creative education and activities on nutrition, physical fitness and wellness to youth in their formative years in an effort to decrease childhood and adult obesity in rural and inner-city areas.

West Florida AHEC (WFAHEC), covers the counties of Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton in Florida’s westernmost section of the Panhandle. As a 501-(c)-3 non-profit organization, WFAHEC has developed a representative governing Board of Directors, including members from two community colleges, the medical school at Florida State University Pensacola branch and the Pediatric Residency Program at Sacred Heart Hospital.
